Nepal, Norway Discuss Expanding Health Sector Cooperation

Nepal’s Minister for Health and Food Safety, Nisha Mehta, held a courtesy meeting with Norwegian Ambassador to Nepal Dagny Mjøs on Thursday, where the two sides discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in the health sector.

According to the ministry, the meeting focused on enhancing the long-standing friendship between Nepal and Norway and expanding collaboration in key areas of healthcare. Discussions covered support for Nepal’s health system, health information systems, mental health services, health education and research, maternal and child health, and the Female Community Health Volunteer programme.

Minister Mehta highlighted the government’s priorities, including improving health infrastructure, digitalising health services, addressing the health impacts of climate change, strengthening non-communicable disease and mental health services, promoting health tourism, and developing Nepal’s medicinal herbs sector. She expressed hope for greater cooperation in these areas.

Ambassador Mjøs reaffirmed Norway’s commitment to continuing its support for Nepal’s health sector and other priority areas in line with the Nepal government’s development agenda.
