Nepali Congress lawmaker Sita Thapaliya has urged the government to address the shortage of essential cancer medicines, including Cisplatin and Carboplatin, warning that patients’ treatment is being disrupted.
Speaking during an emergency session of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Thapaliya said cancer patients were still struggling to access the drugs despite assurances that the Ministry of Health and Population had instructed the Department of Drug Administration to investigate the issue and take necessary action.
She cited a recent case of a patient at Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital who contacted her seeking help to obtain chemotherapy medication, saying the shortage remained unresolved and continued to affect patient care.
