The Nepal Cancer Survivors’ Society organized a program in Kathmandu on Sunday to mark National Cancer Survivors Day.
During the event, participants shared suggestions aimed at drawing the government’s attention to the challenges faced by cancer survivors. Among the key recommendations were greater concessions in cancer treatment, discounts on public transportation, and the issuance of identity cards to facilitate such benefits. Participants also called for the inclusion of cancer medicines among the drugs produced by Nepal Drugs Limited.
Society President Pramita Khanal said the recommendations collected during the program would be submitted to the Minister for Health and Food Safety through a memorandum.
On the occasion, the society also honored cancer survivor Dhruva Prasad Humagain with a certificate of appreciation and Dosalla (a traditional shawl) in recognition of his courage and contribution. Humagain is currently a cyclist.
Participants shared their personal experiences of battling cancer and stressed that strong mental resilience is essential in overcoming the disease. They said the love and support of family members play the most important role during treatment and recovery.
The program also featured poetry recitations and cultural dance performances.
