APHIN Backs NMA Protest, Urges Private Hospitals to Suspend All Non-Emergency Services

The Association of Private Health Institutions of Nepal (APHIN) has expressed its full support for the protest launched by the Nepal Medical Association (NMA) and has urged private health institutions across the country to suspend all services except emergency care.

In a press statement, APHIN endorsed the NMA’s press release issued on July 27 and, in line with decisions made by its central and provincial committees, requested all private hospitals to halt non-emergency services on July 28 (today).

The association also called on the government to strengthen and fully implement the Health Workers and Health Institutions Security Act, 2066 (2009) and its First Amendment, 2079 (2022) to ensure the safety and security of healthcare professionals and health institutions.

APHIN further stated that the Government of Nepal should bear responsibility for any consequences arising from the current situation.

The NMA had announced the nationwide suspension of all non-emergency hospital services on Tuesday in protest against the assault on doctors and healthcare workers at Narayani Hospital in Birgunj and the developments that followed.
