Dr. Subash Pyakurel Appointed Chairperson of Health Insurance Board, Pledges to Make Health Insurance the Backbone of Health Sector Reform

The government has appointed Dr. Subash Pyakurel as the Chairperson of the Health Insurance Board. Following his appointment, he took the oath of office and secrecy in the presence of Minister for Health and Food Hygiene Nisha Mehta.

Assuming office, Dr. Pyakurel pledged to strengthen health insurance as a key pillar of Nepal’s health sector reform. He said the health insurance system could serve as the central mechanism for improving coordination and integration among the country’s various health regulatory bodies.

He also expressed his commitment to working with a positive approach to help achieve the government’s target of bringing 90 percent of the population under the national health insurance scheme within the next three years.

Thanking the government for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Health Insurance Board, Dr. Pyakurel reaffirmed his commitment to working in close collaboration with all stakeholders to enhance the board’s effectiveness and strengthen Nepal’s health insurance system.

Dr. Pyakurel is an experienced expert in the field of health insurance. He has made significant contributions over the years to the development of health insurance policy, management, and reform, and has been actively engaged in advancing the sector. He served as an advisor to the Health and Population Department of the Rastriya Swatantra Party during the party’s formation.
